The Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) is the Peak Professional Body for Advancing Orthopaedics in Australia.  The association helps monitor the outcomes of joint replacements (measured by reoperation rates) in Australia and is a world leader in such data collection.

National Joint Replacement Registry

The Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR) is an initiative of the AOA. The AOANJRR was established in 1999, becoming fully national in mid 2002. The purpose of the AOANJRR is to improve and maintain the quality of care for individuals receiving joint replacement surgery. Information on hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and spinal disc replacement is collected from all hospitals in Australia undertaking joint replacement surgery.

Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

RACS is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and New Zealand.   The RACS umbrella covers all surgical specialties, with the Australian Orthopaedic Association being a more relevant body to orthopaedic surgery in Australia.

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) is an influential membership organisation representing registered medical practitioners and medical students of Australia.  It assists with medical governance and remuneration as well as advocating for standards.

E-Orthopod: Patient information sheets

Dr Mackie subscribes to a USA-based supplier of printable information sheets on multiple orthopaedic conditions.  These may be viewed online or printed out for personal use and reflect common orthopaedic practices.  They are not specific to Dr Mackie’s assessment and management of specific conditions but may provide patients with a starting point for questions or further information.

Royal Hobart Hospital

Tasmania’s tertiary level public hospital.  Dr Mackie is currently the Head of Department for the Orthopaedic Surgical Services at the RHH.

Tasmania’s largest private hospital.  Dr Mackie’s private practice is located on the campus of the Lenah Valley hospital.
